Mary was given the title "Our Lady of Sorrows" not only because of the deep suffering she endured through the passion and death of Our Lord, but also because of the "seven sorrows" which included the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, losing Jesus in the Temple, meeting Jesus on His way to Calvary, standing at the foot of the cross, holding Jesus after the crucifixion, and Jesus's burial. In our times of pain and suffering, may we look to Mary and open our hearts to receiving her compassion, love, and strength to continue trusting God.
